If you are visiting Osaka and looking for a place where history, architecture, and everyday city life come together, Nakanoshima is a wonderful area to explore.

One of its most beautiful landmarks is Osaka City Central Public Hall, often called Nakanoshima Public Hall. With its red-brick walls, elegant arches, and riverside location, it is one of those buildings that makes you stop for a moment and take a photo.

The best part? It is not far from our cooking class area, so it can be a lovely place to visit before or after your class.

A Historic Building in the Heart of Osaka

Osaka City Central Public Hall was completed in 1918 and stands on Nakanoshima, an island-like area between the rivers in central Osaka. The building is known for its beautiful Neo-Renaissance style, with a grand yet warm appearance that feels very different from the modern buildings around it.

The hall was built thanks to a large donation from Einosuke Iwamoto, a businessman from Osaka. His gift helped create a public cultural space for the city, and more than 100 years later, the building is still loved by locals and visitors.

In 2002, Osaka City Central Public Hall was designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, recognizing its value as an important piece of modern Japanese architecture.

Why It Is Worth Visiting

Nakanoshima Public Hall is beautiful from the outside, especially if you enjoy architecture or photography. The red-brick exterior, the domed roof, and the classical details make it one of the most photogenic buildings in Osaka.

It is also interesting because it shows a different side of the city. Osaka is often known for food, shopping, and lively streets, but Nakanoshima has a calmer atmosphere. Around the public hall, you can enjoy riverside views, historic buildings, and a slower pace.

This makes it a nice contrast to the busy areas of Namba, Dotonbori, and Umeda.

A Good Stop Before or After a Cooking Class

Our cooking class is not only about cooking. We also want guests to experience local Osaka life through food, small shops, ingredients, and neighborhood culture.

If you have time before or after your class, Nakanoshima Public Hall can be a beautiful addition to your day. You can take a walk around the building, enjoy the riverside scenery, and feel the atmosphere of historic Osaka.

For guests who enjoy combining food experiences with local sightseeing, this area is especially recommended.
